When the concern is urgent
Hooj does not monitor every interaction in real time and cannot dispatch emergency assistance. Do not wait for an in-app report response when someone may be in immediate danger, a crime may be underway, or urgent medical help is needed.
- In the United States, call 911 or contact the relevant campus or local public-safety agency.
- For a mental-health, suicide, or substance-use crisis in the United States, call or text 988 or visit 988lifeline.org.
- Move to a safer public location when possible and contact someone you trust.
- After urgent help is underway, report the account or content to Hooj so we can review platform access and preserve relevant records where appropriate.
Reports enter a moderation workflow. They are not continuously monitored emergency communications.
Report something in Hooj
Use the report action available from the content or account menu. Select the closest reason and add concise details that help a reviewer understand what happened. Current report reasons include scams or fraud, prohibited items, harassment or hate, spam, inappropriate content, and other concerns.
Include the relevant content, account, event, organization, or listing rather than reporting an unrelated item. Dates, transaction context, repeated behavior, and a short explanation can make review more effective.
You only need to report the same item once. Repeated or bad-faith reports can slow review and may violate the Community Guidelines.
What the reporting tools cover
Hooj currently accepts in-app reports for users, listings, posts, stories, events, and organizations. Report the object that most directly represents the concern.
Harassment, impersonation, repeated scams, threatening conduct, or a pattern spanning multiple parts of Hooj.
Hate, harassment, inappropriate media, spam, dangerous content, or another Community Guidelines concern.
Fraud, stolen or prohibited goods, misleading information, unsafe conduct, or a violation of the Prohibited Items Policy.
Misrepresentation, dangerous activity, unlawful admission practices, harassment, fraud, or a material safety concern.
Impersonation, coordinated abuse, fraudulent activity, unsafe conduct, or misuse of an organization identity.
For a message or group-chat concern, preserve the relevant context, block the sender when appropriate, report the user or associated content in Hooj, and contact support@hooj.app. Do not forward illegal exploitative material.
Block people. Hide content.
Blocking and reporting solve different problems. Reporting sends information to Hooj for review. Blocking is a personal safety and boundary tool intended to restrict visibility and interaction between accounts across major Hooj surfaces.
Blocking does not guarantee that a person cannot contact you outside Hooj, view content through another account, or remain present in a shared real-world space. If someone evades a block, report the new account and explain the connection.
Hiding removes supported content from your own experience without necessarily taking it down for everyone else. You can hide listings, posts, events, stories, and organizations where the option is available. Hidden content can be managed separately from blocked users.
What happens after a report
Hooj records the report and may triage it based on severity, target type, available context, potential harm, transaction risk, and prior relevant activity. A reviewer may examine the reported object, related account information, reports, moderation history, and other records permitted by the Privacy Policy.
A report may be dismissed when Hooj cannot verify a violation or may be actioned when enforcement is appropriate. Hooj does not currently provide a user-facing report-status inbox, and privacy or safety considerations may prevent us from sharing the outcome or actions involving another user.
We do not guarantee a specific result or response time. Reports involving credible threats, child exploitation, serious fraud, or imminent harm may receive heightened priority.
Actions Hooj may take
The appropriate response depends on the conduct, available evidence, severity, repetition, legal obligations, and risk to users. Hooj may:
- Dismiss a report that does not establish a violation.
- Hide or remove a post, story, event, message, or other content.
- Archive a listing or suspend an organization.
- Warn, mute, restrict, suspend, deactivate, or ban an account.
- Preserve evidence, restrict a transaction, or cooperate with payment providers and authorities where appropriate.
- Take immediate action without advance notice when needed to address serious risk or comply with law.
Verification, organization status, ambassador status, payment onboarding, or school affiliation does not exempt anyone from enforcement.
Marketplace and meetup safety
Review the listing, offer, payment method, meetup location, and transaction state before leaving for a meetup. Prefer a well-lit public location, tell someone your plans, and inspect an item before confirming handoff.
- Do not share passwords, verification codes, payment credentials, or unnecessary personal information.
- Do not confirm a Hooj Pay handoff or share a transaction code before the correct item is present and the exchange is ready to complete.
- Be cautious when someone unexpectedly changes the agreed price, location, account, or payment method.
- Report suspected fraud and preserve transaction details. For payment failures, refunds, or disputes, see Payments, Refunds, and Disputes.
- Items and services must comply with the Prohibited Items Policy.
Events and organizations
An event or organization page is not a guarantee that a venue, organizer, activity, ticket, or attendee is safe. Verification confirms only the checks Hooj describes for that badge and is not an endorsement.
Follow venue rules, organizer instructions, capacity restrictions, and local emergency guidance. Leave and seek help if conditions become unsafe. Report misleading event details, dangerous conduct, fraudulent tickets, harassment, impersonation, or misuse of an organization identity.
Organization owners and authorized managers are responsible for member roles and organization-controlled content, but serious policy violations can still be reported directly to Hooj. Event-specific responsibilities are described in the Event and Ticket Terms.
Use the right reporting path
Do not download, save, or redistribute suspected exploitative material. Follow the Child Safety Standards and contact emergency services when a child is in immediate danger.
Use the notice and counter-notice process in the Copyright and DMCA Policy. A general safety report does not replace a legally complete copyright notice.
Use the transaction flow and contact support with the listing, event, order, or PaymentIntent context. Review the payment policy before disputing a charge.
See the Privacy Policy and Account and Data Deletion page for privacy and deletion requests.
Contact the appropriate authority when required. Legal requests for Hooj should be sent to legal@hooj.app.
Preserve useful context safely
Keep relevant usernames, dates, transaction identifiers, event or listing links, and a concise account of what happened. Screenshots can help when content is temporary, but do not collect, download, or redistribute illegal exploitative content.
Reports are not public posts. Hooj may retain report details, relevant content references, account information, enforcement records, and communications for safety, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, and policy enforcement.
Hooj may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect safety and rights. We generally do not disclose a reporter's identity to the reported user merely to explain a moderation outcome, but we cannot promise anonymity in every legal, emergency, or evidentiary circumstance.
Request review of an enforcement decision
Hooj does not currently provide a dedicated in-app appeal center. If you believe an account or content action was based on a mistake, email support@hooj.app with the subject Enforcement review request.
Include the email associated with your account, the affected content or account, the decision you want reviewed, why you believe it was mistaken, and any concise supporting context. Do not create another account to evade the restriction while review is pending.
A review request does not guarantee reversal. Hooj may decline repetitive, abusive, untimely, or unsupported requests and may preserve restrictions while reviewing safety, fraud, legal, or payment risks.
Contact Hooj
