Hooj help center

What can we help with?

Straight answers about campus access, social features, marketplace transactions, events, organizations, payments, and safety.

Getting started

What is Hooj?
Hooj brings campus social life, events, organizations, marketplace activity, conversations, and payments into one connected app. It is designed around the people and places that make a campus feel active.
Where is Hooj available?
Hooj launches campus by campus, beginning with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Use the Get the app button to find your school or join the waitlist for a future launch.
Is Hooj affiliated with my university?
No. Hooj is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any university.

Accounts and campus access

Why do I need a school email?
A school email helps Hooj place you in the correct campus community and verify student access. It reduces anonymous accounts and makes campus interactions more accountable.
What does a verification badge mean?
Badges communicate the type of verification completed. A student badge identifies a verified student account. An organization shield identifies an organization that Hooj has reviewed and approved.
Can I follow people and organizations?
Yes. You can follow users and organizations to keep up with their posts, events, stories, listings, and activity. Public following is available now, with more visibility controls planned over time.

Social and stories

What can I share on Hooj?
You can create posts and stories, join campus conversations, and share content connected to events and organizations. Content should follow the Community Guidelines and respect the audience it is shared with.
What are school, event, and organization stories?
Story destinations let a photo or update belong to more than one context. School stories reflect campus life, event stories capture a specific event, and organization stories represent an organization community.
Can I save or share a post?
Yes. Posts can be bookmarked for later and shared through Hooj conversations. Content that has been removed or is no longer available will not remain usable as a saved item.

Marketplace

How does a marketplace transaction work?
A buyer can make an offer, the seller can accept, reject, or counter, and both people can coordinate a meetup. Activity keeps track of actions, waiting states, upcoming meetups, and completed transaction history.
Can a seller accept cash and Hooj Pay?
A seller can choose the supported payment methods for a listing. The listing will show whether cash, Hooj Pay, or both are available so both people can confirm the method before completing the exchange.
What should I do before a meetup?
Confirm the item, price, payment method, time, and location in Hooj. Meet in a public, well-lit campus location and inspect the item before completing the transaction.
What items are not allowed?
Hooj does not allow illegal, dangerous, restricted, counterfeit, or otherwise prohibited items. Review the Prohibited Items policy before creating a listing.

Events and organizations

What kinds of events can I create?
Events can be open, require an RSVP, or use tickets. Organizers can add event details, a location when relevant, attendee limits, ticket tiers, approval requirements, and organization ownership.
Where do ticket and RSVP requests appear?
Requests that require a decision appear as actions for the organizer. Attendees can see pending requests and upcoming approved events in Activity.
Who can create an event for an organization?
Only organization members with the appropriate role and event permissions can create or manage events on behalf of that organization.
How does organization verification work?
An authorized organization leader can submit a verification request. Hooj reviews the organization and supporting context before granting the verified organization shield.

Hooj Pay

What is Hooj Pay?
Hooj Pay is the in-app payment layer for eligible marketplace transactions and event ticket sales. Payment processing and connected-account services are provided through Stripe.
Who needs to set up Hooj Pay?
A person receiving marketplace payments or an organization receiving event proceeds must complete the required connected-account onboarding before accepting Hooj Pay.
Where can I see payouts and account status?
Hooj Pay settings show connection and onboarding status. Available balances, payouts, requirements, and transaction information depend on the connected account and the payment tools available in the app.

Safety and moderation

How do I report something?
Use the options menu on the relevant user, post, story, event, organization, or listing. Choose the reason that best describes the issue and include useful context when prompted.
What happens after I submit a report?
Reports enter Hooj's moderation system for review. Depending on the content and severity, Hooj may remove content, restrict features, suspend an account, or take other appropriate action.
What does blocking or hiding change?
Hiding removes content from your experience where supported. Blocking is a stronger account-level action that limits interaction and visibility between users. Reporting and blocking can be used separately.
How can I contact Hooj about an urgent issue?
Email team@hooj.app with your account email and a clear description. If there is an immediate threat or emergency, contact local emergency services first.
